Elizabeth Turrell
My aim is give students a basic understanding of enamel on metal by introducing non-traditional approaches to enamel on copper and steel, with emphasis on developing enamel as a contemporary medium for artists. The focus is on the development of personal vocabulary and imagery.
What will students gain if they come on one of your courses?Knowledge of the creative possibilities of enamel, as well as gaining an understanding of the material and the firing process, enabling them to think through the process and to problem solve with confidence.
Are there any particular techniques/processes you use in your teaching?Focus on line and surface enrichment: simple drawing, printmaking and painting approaches suitable for the enamelling process.
What inspires your own work?My work is inspired by memorials and markers, which celebrate the lives of ordinary citizens caught up in the extraordinary circumstances of conflicts and war.
