In my courses, I throw everything at students (in a structured way)! 40 years teaching and it’s still working.

What will students gain if they come on one of your courses?

Experience, guidance, and the help in becoming a problem solver and self teacher. By the end of a course the students will have produced much and have begun the exciting development of their own style.

Are there any particular techniques/processes you use in your teaching?

Initially demonstration and after some carefully structured guided work the questioning of the student’s actions to give them the beginnings of an instinctive understanding of the craft.

What inspires your own work?

Colour and movement!

Where did you gain your training/experience?

I am completely self taught where marbling is concerned. My teaching experience started with a full teacher’s qualification at Dartington Hall and full time teaching until 1990. A deputy head teacher for 6 years and at the same time in-service teaching in Hertfordshire. Since then teaching all over the country both marbling and bookbinding.

Is your work in any public or private collections?

My work is virtually all in private collections.

Are you a member of any guilds/societies?

I am a member of the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen, and The Society of Bookbinders.
