I teach in an informal way with the emphasis on discussion, lecture and demonstration and application of the techniques and approaches experienced to the students own work. I try to encourage, inspire and advise, andhelp the student to follow their own creative direction.

What will students gain if they come on one of your courses?

The confidence to try new and exciting approaches and apply them to their own painting.

Are there any particular techniques/processes you use in your teaching?

I use all manner of techniques including glazing, lifting out, creating texture and lively painted surfaces, all the time employing sound draftsmanship and composition.

What inspires your own work?

Landscape, changing light and the creation of atmosphere and mood, strong directional light and dynamic composition.

Where did you gain your training? Experience?

30years as an illustrator,25 as a painter and professional artist, 10 years teaching and running art courses and painting holidays in the uk and abroad.

Teaching experience:

8 years adult education, 10 years teaching my own classes, and doing demonstrations to Art groups and societies.

Is your work in any public or private collections?

I exhibit in galleries throughout England and Scotland , and won 2 awards at the Royal institute of Painters in Watercolour at Mall Galleries, London.
