Carole Waller

I teach by demonstration of simple techniques and media – and then discuss with each student their specific aims in order to encourage the best possible achievements for each individual.
What will students gain if they come on one of your courses? An understanding of how to use dyes for painting and printing onto primarily natural fabrics in a very free way which is painterly and expressive – and on longer courses, of how to develop their personal language in this field.
Are there any particular techniques/processes you use in your teaching?Simple low tech screenprinting along with optional use of digital image manipulation for artwork. The use of dyes and pigments as a painting medium on umprimed cloth.
What inspires your own work?Colour inspires me – and the idea of projecting images into our environment in other forms beyond the rectangular canvas.
Where can students see examples of your work?In the Costume and Textile collections at the V&A Museum in London. At Contemporary Applied Arts, Percy St London, Julie Gallery New York and my own gallery just outside Bath.
