On these taster courses I will lead the group through the processes involved to make a 20cm square panel. I mainly teach by demonstrating a step in the process, then giving individual tuition in executing the technique.

What will students gain if they come on one of your courses?

Students will learn all the basic techniques involved in making a stained glass panel, enabling them to go on to make advanced projects to their own designs later if they wish to. All students will take home a beautiful panel ready for hanging.

Are there any particular techniques/processes you use in your teaching?

On the taster courses, students will learn how to cut glass, constructing the panel using lead, soldering the lead joints, cementing the panel for strength and polishing the leads to finish the piece. On longer, advanced, courses I also teach students how to prepare a design and cutting pattern, as well as including decorative techniques such as sandblasting.

What inspires your own work?

Inspiration comes from many sources, particularly architecture. Colour, repeating patterns and decorative motifs are a common theme throughout my work.

Where can students see examples of your work?

On my website.

What teaching experience have you had?

I was asked to start a stained glass course for adult learners at the Redbridge Institute, London and taught this course for seven years. I now teach in my studio and at the Field Studies Centre at Flatford Mill, Suffolk. I have a City & Guilds Certificate in Teaching (Part 1).

Is your work in any public or private collections?

Most of the work I do is for private clients in their homes, which is my preferred method of working as I enjoy the personal interaction. In a commercial setting, I made a large commission of four panels for the Nokia HG building. I was also commissioned by The Scout Association to make a window to celebrate their centenary, which is installed in their Gilwell Park HQ.

Do you belong to any professional groups/societites?

The Contemporary Glass Society, The British Society of Master Glass Painters.
