Summer School in Visual Art and Craft
21 July - 10 August 2012

West Dean’s Summer Schools are the creative and social highlight of the year.
Full course listing below, click on the Tutors name for more information and to book.

At the height of the summer West Dean’s location offers the perfect location to not only immerse yourself in a subject, but also to relax and to take advantage of the extra programmed activities that are part of the Summer Schools.

You have a chance to explore new ways of creating and working in your chosen subject whilst also enjoying the opportunity to share ideas and experiences with like-minded people on other courses. The low student numbers offers tutors time to give personal attention and support as well as the opportunity to work intensively on your own. A programmed swap-over session to another course allows you to sample another art or craft, and often inspires new ways of approaching your own area.

Yoga and Chi Kung sessions are programmed throughout each week.

The Summer School Programme

The special features of the programme include:

  • Short illustrated talks by tutors on their work (open to all)
  • A programmed swap-over session to another course of your choice
  • Displays of tutors’ work
  • An afternoon of organised visits to local arts venues
  • An optional evening at the Chichester Festival Theatre (which must be pre-booked)
  • A special party dinner on the last evening with music
  • Workshop displays of students' work and informal end-of-course group reviews

The Summer School courses begin at lunch-time on Saturday and end at 3pm the following Friday. Tuition and all meals, excluding breakfast, are covered in the non-residential course fee.
