This seasonal programme offers a popular mix of courses in garden design and practical gardening topics. A series of weekend one-day lectures and two-day seminars is a popular addition to this established programme.

Topics include Pruning, Propagating, Bee keeping, Caring for shrubs and trees, Organic gardening, Garden design, Vegetable growing, Seasonal gardening, Flower arranging, Fruit growing, Allotment and Hedge maintenance, Container gardening, Chicken keeping, Herbs, Planting Combinations including Bulbs and Grasses, Water gardens, Shade gardens, Plant photography, Woven willow, Woven hazel, Training plants and Climbers, Wildlife gardening, Scented gardening, Floristry, Coastal gardens, Plant specialists and Growing plants.

Teaching facilities

The gardening courses have an indoor base in the College which is ideally suited for hands-on practice. Study also takes place in the West Dean Gardens. On some longer courses occasional visits are made to gardens and nurseries in the area. Garden lectures and seminars take place in the Sussex Barn which is accessed via West Dean Gardens entrance.
