West Dean's gardening and food courses are coming closer together with plenty of opportunitites for you to find out how to grow your own food, and then learn about preparing, storing and eating!

Gardening

Gardening students at West Dean enjoy expert teaching in inspiring surroundings, with unlimited access to the award-winning gardens during their courses.

This seasonal programme offers a popular mix of courses in garden design and practical gardening topics.

Topics include Pruning, Propagating, Bee keeping, Caring for shrubs and trees, Organic gardening, Garden design, Vegetable growing, Seasonal gardening, Flower arranging, Fruit growing, Allotment and Hedge maintenance, Container gardening, Chicken keeping, Herbs, Planting Combinations including Bulbs and Grasses, Water gardens, Shade gardens, Plant photography, Woven willow, Woven hazel, Training plants and Climbers, Wildlife gardening, Scented gardening, Floristry, Coastal gardens, Plant specialists and Growing plants.

A series of Sow it, Grow it, Cook it and Eat it courses using the West Dean Garden allotment will offer real insight into the whole growing to eating process.

Food

Students attending food courses enjoy a lively hands-on making experience and/or food appreciation with industry professionals at the top of their game.

The food prgramme offers a range of short courses for half a day to week long summer schools.

Topics include Baking, Beer, Farming, Chocolate Making, Marmalade Masterclass, Tea-Tasting, Fish Knife Skills, Mediterranean Food, Basic Charcuterie knife skills, Fungi identification and cooking.

A series of Sow it, Grow it, Cook it and Eat it courses using the West Dean Garden allotment will offer real insight into the whole growing to eating process.
