Message from the Principal
We continue to nurture the legacy of our founder, the surrealist Edward James, who spent his life and fortune helping people to develop their creative, artistic practice. All full-time students have access to an extensive portfolio of extraordinary short courses. These provide an unparalleled level of support for students, access to specialist studio-workshops is seven days a week for thirty six weeks of the year. Much of our provision is world class. Our full-time portfolio includes: MA Design; MA Conservation Studies; MA Creative Writing; MA Visual Arts and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA ) alongside a raft of graduate and postgraduate diplomas. We are enrolling our first PhD students and intend to extend the number of research students during the coming years in collaboration with the University of Sussex. Our learning resources include dedicated studios and workshops and a student to staff ratio of 8:1.More than three hundred tutors are involved with the delivery of advanced skills and the teaching of contextual knowledge helping to make our graduates competitive in the wider world of professional practice and research. We place great emphasis upon enterprise and our students have a golden opportunity to build a platform for progression into their chosen profession. Our headline fees constitute excellent value for money and in order to help deserving candidates we award a significant number of grants and bursaries each year. The University of Sussex validates our masters and research degrees, as well as the majority of our diplomas, which enables students to access emerging research whilst working alongside leading professional practitioners in a world-class climate of enquiry. The College is located at the centre of our award-winning Gardens and Park which provide the most exquisite setting and natural resource. You are most welcome to visit the College and, if invited for interview, to spend a day in the studios and workshops to meet fellow students, tutors and those responsible for making your studies enjoyable and productive. I look forward to meeting you and to learning more about what you may bring to this special place.
